What We Believe

If you’re here, it’s because you care deeply about your child.
We wrote this for you.

You have done a wonderful thing.

You have noticed that your child is struggling and you have found therapists to support them.

The therapeutic journey can be tricky. You may be in the process of seeking a formal diagnosis for Autism or ADHD. You may have a team of specialists throwing a lot of scary diagnostic words around.

“Restricted interests…”
“rigid, repetitive behaviours”,

“poor eye contact”,
“impulsive behaviour”,
“reduced attention”…

…“Disorder.”

But we both know that your child is so much more than this.

Maybe your child has amazing attention to detail and notices things that you just can’t. Maybe your child is able to make up the most fascinating creative stories. Maybe your child can hyperfocus on one activity for hours at a time.

A diagnosis of Autism or ADHD means that your child is considered neurodivergent. This means that the structure and chemistry of their brain is fundamentally different from typical brains (or neurotypical brains).

There is no “cure”.

Some more traditional therapies are focused on “curing” your child and making them “normal”.

But attempting to do this ignores a long list of all the incredible strengths that come with having their unique neurodivergent brain.

It forces a child to try to be something that they simply are not.

It can be exhausting for them.

In fact, research has shown this takes a huge toll on their self-esteem and confidence.

The way we talk about our children is how they will talk about themselves.

That’s why at Hi Thrive, we are a proudly neurodiversity affirming space.

This means that our therapy is strengths-based and designed to build your child’s confidence and capacity.

We will work closely with you and your child to help you learn how your child’s brain works and to celebrate their unique strengths. We call them ‘superpowers’ here.

We want to encourage children to be themselves.

And to be truly accepted for who they are.

It is not the job of children to change for us.
